The Unity Application Suite comprises several independent applications that work together to offer a complete call/presence/messaging solution for the Windows desktop. The heart of this model is the Unity Client, a windows service that connects to the BroadSoft Open Client Server [OCS].
Service Provider Benefits
For Service Providers, Unity offers a "fire-and-forget" deployment model;
| Auto Update |
Unity will update itself from Kakapo Systems Update Server while retaining user settings and Service Provider branding. |
| BroadWorks Upgrades |
Unity will auto detect the version of BroadWorks the Service Provider is running and unlock any new functionality that us available in that version. There is no re-installing or even notifying users when the Service Provider changes BroadWorks versions. |
| Free Trial |
Unity does not have to be allocated to the user in BroadWorks to trial. Once downloaded, the user automatically receives a free 14 day trial [this can be reduced within Unity Skin Designer if required]. This process can be completely invisible to the Service Provider reducing the burden on Customer Service teams. |
| User Self Fulfillment |
At the expiry of the trial, Unity will prompt the user to purchase [the price and message prompts are part of the brand parameters set in Unity Skin Designer]. If accepted, the user is automatically licensed and at the end of each month Kakapo Systems will pass this information to the Service Provider to enable them to charge for the service. This feature can be disabled by Service providers. |
| Simplified Rollout |
Unity supports rollout through Microsoft Active Directory [AD] making it as easy to deploy 1000 seats as it is to deploy 1. No more manual installs on each PC! |
| Reduced Training |
Unity features intuitive navigation and a natural icon based interface. Partner experience to date confirms that in most instances training is superfluous. The Service Provider can also specify the URL for customized/branded Help within Skin Designer. |
| Go To Market Strategy |
Unity offers profound options in the Service Provider route to market. Because Unity supports full BroadWorks functionality, the desk telephone becomes simply a voice path; there is no longer any intelligence required in the handset. In this way, an analogue telephone offers the same functionality as a high end IP hardphone. While Unity works equally well regardless of handset type, the option of deploying non-IP handsets potentially reduces the solution cost and removes the complexity of provisioning some IP hard phones. |
